15 September 2008 - Another club record
Although a bit after the event, newsletter editor John Thompson has spotted that another club record has been broken this year (though this time not by him). Back in May, Simon Haward (20:14), David Leighton (21:41) and Mark Wilkinson (22:09) knocked almost 2 minutes from the previous club 10 mile team record at the Corinium CC 10 mile TT. A belated congratulations to all three!

7th September 2008 - John continues to break records
John Thompson managed 1:02:54 on his trike in the Hairwaun Wheelers 25 on Sunday. Not particularly fast (John's words ... not mine!), but thanks to increasing years this gave him a plus of 20:13, a new club record. With the 50 and 100 times done earlier in the year he now also has a VET BAR plus of 5.350 mph, also a new club record. It also gave him a new four distance trike record of 21.691mph.

1st September 2008 - Severn Meets Mersey Weekend
The annual weekend ride to mid Wales is set for the 18th/19th October.  Details are here

31 August 2008 - Saturday Training Rides
The annual winter training season is almost upon us. The saturday rides will commence on 13th September following the same format as recent years. Meet at The Toby Carvery pub in Bradley Stoke (formerly The Orchard) at 10am. Rides will be anywhere between 2.5 and 3.5 hours depending on who is out and what the weather is like. Routes aren't decided until the day. More details on the rides can be found here.

Martin's first sportive of the year. A full ride report can be found here.

14 August 2008 - Request for marshals
The Welsh CA 12 hour is ran in early September on a course based near Raglan and Abergavenny. Although the event is ran by the Welsh CA, it also doubles up as the West DC 12 hour championship. Local clubs are being asked to provide a few marshals to assist in running what is an excellent event. Please contact TT secretary Bridget Boon if you're willing to assist.

10 August 2008 - Severn Road Club Open 25 TT
A wet and windy day on what will probably be last race on the U18C saw some excellant times. Simon Haward, Matthew Burbridge and David Leighton of Severn Road club won the team event with a total time of 02:56:58. Jeff Jones of Chippenham Wheelers was fastest overall with a blistering 00:56:00. Results can be found here. Pictures of all the riders can be seen here.

7 August 2008 - Final Arthur Powell results
Last night saw the final event in the 2008 Arthur Powell series. Results are available here. Congratulations to Jerry Seymour for continuing to PB and winning by a big margin. Medals will be awarded to the top 6. Next season the series will start from scratch as the evening 10 changes location and all PB counting times are reset (rather than the counting time being the PB from the current and previous season) by virtue of a change in course. Don't forget that there are still three events to go this season with the last being Dave Boddy's Top'N'Tail event.

5 August 2008 - Back to John's turn
Not content with seeing Matt at the top of the news, John Thompson was back setting trike records at East Region TA 12 on Sunday with a trike record distance of 228.71 miles, including an improvement to the Vet's record on standard of +50.55. 24hr on the trike next?

3 August 2008 - Another Club Record ... this time for Matthew
Matthew Burbridge did an excellent 4:06:25 in the WTTA 100 this morning. His time improves the Veterans 100 mile record by 16 minutes and came within 17 seconds of the Senior men's record that has stood since 1966. Not bad for his first attempt at the distance!

27 July 2008 - Another Club Record for John
John Thompson pedalled his trike round the Icknield RC 50 in 2:13:36. This was only a minute faster than the first 50 miles of the 100 he rode two weeks earlier on the same roads. The disappointment was somewhat compensated when he came to work out his plus, which came to 38:57, a new club record. No late starts this time though!

16 July 2008 - John's Season Start...
Trikeman John Thompson started his 2008 campagn this weekend (12/13 July). On the Saturday he rode the Thames Valley TA 10, but hit a rock which smashed through his inside wheel cover and he packed.

On the Sunday he rode the North Midds and Herts CA 100 on the F1 and did 4:40:35. Though not that fast, because of increased years, that gave him a club record plus of 1:29:42.

Conditions were excellent, and most of the way round he thought he would be well inside 4:40, but, as those who have ridden it know, while the first half of this course is fast, the second is cruel, with rough surfaces, unhelpful cambers, lots of bends, and dozens of roundabouts. In addition they went through a roadworks with single track four times, two of which he was held up. On top of that he had a 15 second late start!

1 June 2008 - Another New Club Record and Trophy
Chris Madge broke the mens club 25 record this morning at Cheltenham & Country Cycle Club's Open 25 on the U46B.  He recorded a time of 52:36 breaking his previous record by 28 seconds.  The event was won by Richard Prebble with a 50:02.  During the presentations, Astrid Gibbs was presented with the 2007 WTTA Short BAR Trophy.  Also of note Martyn Green broke the hour for the first time with a time of 56:14.  Well done to Chris, Astrid, and Martyn.

13 May 2008 - New Web Site
Welcome to the new website. We have moved over to Google sites to allow any member of the Severn Road Club to add and update the site so if you have something to add or something to change/correct (such as my spelling) then feel free to do so. You will need to have an email account which ends with @severnroadclub.co.uk to be able to change it. Just email Steve or me and we shall add you to the email list. The old severn site still works but as soon as this one gets established I shall close the old one down but we shall obviously keep the www.sevenroadclub.co.uk name. Copies of the old site will be available via DVD as not all the information will be transfered to the new site.

13 May 2008 - New Club Record
Congratulations to Simon Haward for breaking the senior men's club 10 record with a 20:14 in Saturday's Corinium CC 10 on the U47, taking 10 seconds off the benchmark set by Chris Madge last year. Not bad going since this is Simon's first proper season of open events!  But watch this space as I wouldn't be suprised if either Simon or Chris top this.

13 May 2008 - New Evening 10 Course
Traffic lights at the Falfield junction on the A38 are reputedly due to begin construction this month. The current evening 10 course will remain in action until we are forced to relocate though a new course has been proposed. A Google Earth file here illustrates the new route.

18 Apr 2008 - Evening 10 Series
The popular evening 10 series has resumed. The usual course is currently still being used, but a change to an alternative course in the Severn valley utilising the back stretch of the current version is expected to take over when construction of the traffic lights at Falfield begin. Entry fee has been raised this year to £1.50 to account for the increased CTT levy (now £1).

8 Jan 2008 - Prize presentation
The annual prize presentation will take place on 23rd February at Winterbourne community centre. As in previous years it will take the format of a skittles night and buffet. Tickets cost £6 and can be obtained from social secretary Graham Smith, phone 07968 850032.

4 Aug 2007 - Kirsti Wins 12hr National Championship
Continuing her excellent form this season Kirsti won the 12hr National Championship last Sunday (29th July) with a distance of 242.84 miles and came 25th overall. This is a new club record. Congratutions!

4 Aug 2007 - Lewis Woolford wins Arthur Powell Throphy
Congratulations to Lewis Woolford for showing a consistent, and significant, improvement during the course of the season to ultimately win by a fairly comfortable margin. A slow start to the season with an inital time of 32:40, 12 year old Lewis consistantly improved with a PB of 25:44 in his first season. Somehow I think he shall trash that next year!
