The evening 10 series incorporates the competition for the Arthur Powell Trophy. There are a further two trophies up for grabs, the Syd Marks Trophy for the fastest vet and The Brian Paul Memorial Cup for the fastest rider overall in the series. Both first and second claim members are eligible to compete for all three trophies.
If the Severn Road Club is not your first claim club, you can join as a second claim member on the night for a nominal annual fee. The fee for this year is yet to be finalised but in previous years it has been in the region of a (very reasonable) pound for the year. As each race is a club event there is no need to enter in advance so you can just turn up, sign on and ride (riders must be a minimum of 12 years of age, under 18's must submit a parental consent form).
How the Arthur Powell Trophy competition works
The Arthur Powell competition is awarded each year for the most improved rider and is run over 10 weeks from June 5 - August 7 as a points competition. The rider accumulating the most points during the 10 weeks is awarded the Trophy. Points are scored as follows:
1 point - Each weeks race completed
1 point - For each 10 second improvement on PB
2 points -Within 30 seconds of PB
5 points - Improvement on PB or matching it.
A personal best (PB) is defined, for the purposes of this competition series, as a rider's fastest time recorded on this course during the current and previous season. Where a rider has not recorded a PB for the course, then their first ride will score 1 point and be used as the riders PB in subsequent weeks.
Examples:
A rider with a PB of 25m 30s achieves a time
of 25m 15s would score 7 points.
1 point for completing, 5 points for an improvement
on PB and 1 point for improving PB by the first
10 sec.
A rider with a PB of 24m 17s achieves a time
of 24m 38s would score 3 points.
1 point for completing and 2 points for being
within 30 seconds of PB.
The Syd Marks Trophy
The Syd Marks Trophy is awarded to the veteran rider, first or second claim, who posts the fastest time during the series on the UC182 course.
The Brian Paul Memorial Cup
The Brian Paul Memorial Cup is awarded to the rider, first or second claim, who posts the fastest time during the series on the UC182 course.
