A day of rain prior to racing gave us some proper cyclocross conditions at Oldbury Court. There were good rides from all Severn RC representatives with Louis Britton just losing out in the sprint to finish 2nd in the Youth race, Neil Blessitt 6th in the V50+ (and 1st V60) and Jamie Britton 5th in the V40. Lee Palmer is starting to get to grips with the mud (26th in the V40) and George Britton battled worsening conditions and cold feet from the multiple stream crossings to finish 12th (and 3rd Junior) in the Senior/Junior race.
Special thanks to the SRC team of Mark Horton, Clive Tiley, Tom Bertenshaw and John Thompson who made the race possible putting up with cold, mud, recalcitrant dog walkers, and a freezing shower whilst clearing up after racing. Also thanks to Paul Evans, a regular helper who, despite just coming out of hospital made an early trip to drop off the signage – you and your wheel-barrow were missed, Paul!
There are a few more races in the winter series of the Western League though this is the last SRC event. It’s a lot of work to put these events on and it’s usually the same few people helping out. It can be a long day but Mark and the team would happily accept help for whatever time people have available. So to finish the SRC CX season with a request: please SRC members, recognise that we will possibly lose these events if we don’t share the workload – give a thought to ticking the event help boxes when your membership renewal forms arrive in the New Year.
Merry (& muddy?) Christmas.
